Staying Social on the Ridge

October is here, the weather is cooling off and the Social Committee is on the move!

If you were unable to attend the last volunteer meeting, please find below an update as to what is coming up as we fall into “Fall”. Before we get started we would like to encourage you to dip your big toe in and join the committee; before you know it 2024 events will be on the horizon!  This is a fabulous way to meet some of your neighbors, bring new ideas, and spread your wings. We promise you will not feel overwhelmed but welcomed with open arms.

OCTOBER FESTIVITIES

Family Hike – The Winston Ridge Social Committee will be introducing a new activity to familiarize residents with the parks, nature preserves and open spaces that are near our community. Our first activity, a family hike, will take place on Saturday, October 14 at 10:00 am. We will be venturing to E. Carroll Joyner Park in Wake Forest (701 Harris Rd.) for a 1-mile interactive hike to have some fun out in the autumn air. The path we will follow is easy, flat, paved, and is suitable for strollers and wagons. This hike is especially geared toward families with smaller children, but all family members are welcome, including furry ones (it is park policy that all dogs must be on a leash). Please bring a drink and a snack since these are not available at the park. We will start our adventure at the information kiosk located by the main parking lot. Looking forward to seeing you there!

The contact for the day of the hike is Tracy Lowe. 443-838-5226

ChiliCookoff/Oktoberfest – Saturday. October 21st, beginning at 4PM the committee will be hosting the event at the Greenspace located on the corner of Periwinkle and Scarlett Bell.  Everyone is welcome to join the FUN. There will be a prize for the BEST Chili! Please note there are still slots open if you want to join in and show off your best chili. Please feel free to contact Pat Mikolay at Pmikolay@nc.rr.com as Pat was kind enough to take the lead on this cookoff!

The Social Committee will be grilling dogs and brats, so please bring a dish to share. We’ll have tents and tables set up similar to The Ridge’s May Block Party!

A Halloween Decorating Contest is coming up, as well.  There will be some friendly competition between the neighborhood so get ready to decorate and bring on the spooky! A voting poll will be sent out shortly.

NOVEMBER GOBBLE

LEO’s (Ladies Eating Out) Pot Luck – Thursday evening, November 16, this “bring a dish” celebration will be held at Pat Mikolay’s home. This is a wonderful evening to celebrate with our neighbors; good food, good cheer, long term memories! Please feel free to reach out to Pat Mikolay at Pmikolay@nc.rr.com with what you will be bringing on or before November 10th.

DECEMBER BLISS

Holiday Decorating – whose home will win the prestigious award?  More details to follow in the next update.

Holiday Parade – more details to follow in the next update. wink! wink!

Cookie Exchange – something the committee is currently “chewing” on. More details to follow.

And last but certainly not least please note Andrea Schempp and her husband have volunteered to decorate our new clubhouse for the holidays. They are looking for a few volunteers to assist. If this is you please contact Andrea at schemppam@gmail.com

The Social committee hopes this update brings you joy and helps keep you in the social. We would love for you to reach out and consider offering your talents in any area that speaks to your heart. Beautiful things continue to happen when we come together in community.

With Appreciation,
The Social Committee (2020-2023)
